The Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and = Antiquities,=20 Hon. Maria Mutagamba has said the Ministry plans to promote the new = Tourism=20 Attraction identified by the David Baker Expedition, in the country and = all over=20 the world.
This=20 is the spot where Sir Samuel Baker stood nearly 150 years ago as he = viewed Lake=20 Albert for the first time.
=E2=80=9CMinistry=20 of Tourism, Uganda Wild Life Authority as well as other players in the = tourism=20 sector will work together to develop the Baker=E2=80=99s view of lake = Albert as a new=20 tourist attraction and ensure that it is included in the itineraries of = tourists=20 coming to Uganda,=E2=80=9D she added.
While=20 addressing journalists on Friday at Uganda Media Centre, the minister = called=20 upon Ugandans to appreciate the tourism industry in the country and help = in=20 boosting it up.
Mutagamba=20 said there are still low levels of domestic tourism in the country and = this=20 should be upon every individual to ensure that the tourist level = increases=20 because it is the foreign income earner in the country.
Although=20 many Ugandans argue that several local people had already seen this lake = for=20 years and even carried out fishing in it before Sir Samuel Baker, the = Ministry=20 recognizes the fact that this lake received international prominence and = recognition after Baker saw it and reported his findings to Royal = Geographical=20 Society.
The Expedition = Leader,=20 Julian Monroe Fisher who was present at the press briefing said, based = on the=20 research conducted by The Rail Riders 2012-16 Great African Expedition = in=20 conjunction with Mr. David Baker, believes that they have located within = the=20 geographical territory of Uganda the exact location where Sir Samuel in = 1864=20 stood to name Lake Albert.
